A Franco-Spanish couple, residing in Zurich, had long dreamed of their second home in Barcelona. So, as soon as they managed to free up a property, they called us to give it a fresh perspective, with an emphasis on the social space of the house. They were willing to place the bedrooms and service areas on the backburner, as long as their functional and storage needs were met.
This significant concession allowed us to modify the existing compartmentalized layout and create a large, open-plan day zone—living room, dining area, and kitchen. This space, fully connected to the balcony, the southern orientation, and the green spaces of Putxet, accommodates the main activities of the home. It even allows for the children’s bedroom to be incorporated: when the wooden double sliding door is opened, the three U-shaped beds of the children’s room transform into a large sofa, decompressing the space for larger gatherings.
With this spatial and functional structure, the master bedroom has been moved to the rear facade, with a double circulation that allows the bathroom to function as both a guest toilet and an en-suite bathroom, maintaining privacy in the master bedroom.

The length of the bathroom allows for this dual access, with a pivoting wardrobe that completes the required storage space.
As for the project’s materiality, we opted for a fairly neutral color palette, giving prominence to the wood. Light wood for the flooring and bathroom furniture, dark wood for countertops and reclaimed carpentry, take center stage in the design.
This intervention has provided the home with optimal thermal-acoustic comfort and functionality, allowing the owning family to enjoy their getaways to the Catalan capital.
