PIN DE ROCALíS

Respecting, not Mimicking

In a two-hectare estate on the outskirts of Vilanova, we were asked to intervene in the surroundings of the house to create outdoor spaces that would be “enjoyable” and extend the boundaries of the interior. During our first visit, we immediately recognized that the house, while situated in the middle of a vast plot, lacked intermediate spaces, making it difficult to engage with nature in a “welcoming” way.

Our intervention aimed to celebrate the culture of outdoor socialization, reconfiguring the entire property and its surroundings to create spaces that could evolve as the children grow and family gatherings become more frequent.

Design and Scope of Intervention

Our work ranged from redesigning the car park to the renovation of an old warehouse and chicken coop, which would be converted into a guesthouse. The design included semi-covered terraces adjacent to the house, a barbecue area, a solarium, a children’s play area, storage, and bike circuits.

At the core of the project lies a deep understanding of its environment. The research and diagnostic phase involved long discussions with the owners to understand their needs, preferences, and lifestyle above all, alongside considerations of the region’s warm and humid climate, orientations, and local construction traditions.

Fusing Architecture and Landscaping

The original architecture and landscaping merge seamlessly, culminating in the creation of outdoor community spaces that function simultaneously as a refuge, a source of pleasure, and a new way of connecting with nature.

This summer, we completed the exterior gallery. When the owners began using it, and we heard some of the stories created around the family lunches and dinners held in the new space, we were convinced that Pin de Rocalís would become everything it was meant to be.

We, too, are eager to see the final outcome of the entire project.
